£348.00

Mondays 10am -12.30pm

10 week course

31st August - 23rd November 2026 (no classes on 12/19/26 October)

Discover the rewarding art of portrait sculpture in this relaxed, inclusive, and enjoyable 10-week course. Whether you're a complete beginner or have some previous experience, this course will guide you through the process of creating a realistic clay portrait of an adult or child.

Working from photographs of your chosen subject, you will learn the classical approach to portrait sculpture, beginning with an understanding of the underlying skull structure before building the soft tissues of the face. This time-honoured method develops both your technical skills and your understanding of facial anatomy, enabling you to create an accurate and expressive likeness.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to observe carefully from photographs, measure proportions, estimate form, and gradually build and refine the features, hair, and overall character of your portrait. During the final session, you will hollow your sculpture and prepare it for kiln firing, with the opportunity to have your finished piece professionally fired at the end of the course.

Above all, this course offers a welcoming, supportive environment where creativity, confidence, learning, and laughter go hand in hand. By the end of the ten weeks, you will have created a unique portrait sculpture and gained the skills and confidence to continue your sculpting journey.

Clay is to be purchased separately and is priced at £10 per bag. One bag should be more than enough for the term.

Firings are to be paid for separately and are priced at £10 per firing.
