WATERCOLOURS WITH CARMEN AMBROZEVICH
Saturday 22 August 2026
10am–4pm (including a 45-minute lunch break)
£89
We’ll begin at Dukes, where you’ll be provided with sketchbooks, pencils and pens, before exploring a few simple and effective drawing techniques to build confidence and loosen up your sketching style.
From there, we’ll take a gentle walk to Seafield Pond at Belhaven for approximately two hours of en plein air sketching, taking inspiration from the landscape, water and surrounding nature.
On returning to Dukes, we’ll move on to an introduction to watercolour painting, covering essential materials, techniques and approaches. Using the sketches, photographs and visual references gathered during the morning, you’ll then create a finished landscape watercolour painting.
All materials are included.
And, as this is Scotland, if the weather is less than ideal, there will be plenty of reference photographs available to work from indoors. You’re also very welcome to bring along your own photographs, iPad or other reference images if you wish.
Tutor: Carmen Ambrozevich is an award-winning artist, former tutor at Edinburgh Printmakers, and a professional member of both Society of Scottish Artists and Visual Arts Scotland.

Join us for an informal and friendly day of drawing and landscape watercolour painting, suitable for beginners and intermediate students alike.
We’ll begin with a series of fun and experimental drawing exercises designed to build confidence and show that you can draw better than you think. From there, we’ll explore the fundamentals of line, tone, form and composition.
The class will then move on to the basics of watercolour painting, using landscape subjects to develop your understanding of materials, equipment and techniques.
In the afternoon, you’ll create a second landscape painting using your own sketches, photographs and reference material as inspiration.
Materials and reference images will be provided, but if you have any particular materials or inspiration you’d like to work from, please feel free to bring them along.
