I am prone on the forest floor.

My cheek rests on pincushion moss,

my nose, close to the smuts and leaf litter.

A collared earthstar opens its tiny beak amongst beech silt.

My fingers explore dry, soft, earthy fragments

and sift furcula and the bones of field voles.

My breath slows and deepens.

I inhale the timelessness of dank mycelium.
