COLOURS OF THE EARTH

WITH EDWARD CAMPBELL AND LUCY LEE

Sunday 20th October

10.30am - 3pm

£70

During this workshop we shall be delving into the world of wild foraged pigments found in the landscape. Throughout the day we will describe and explore what kind of stones, clays and other sources, found in and around Dunbar and beyond, can be possible sources of wild pigment. We will then show how these pigments can be potentially converted into paint and other creative supplies with a mix of demonstrations of practical learning. Participants will be able to take home a selection of paints and pastels made from locally derived colours by the end of the day. Everything will be provided with participants asked to bring only a sketchpad/notebook and some brushes of personal preference.  If participants do not have a sketchbook or brushes of their own, we can supply loose paper and brushes.

Suitable for both practicing artists and those with just an interest in the subject wanting to learn more.

ABOUT EDWARD CAMPBELL AND LUCY LEE

Edward Campbell and Lucy Lee are both practicing artists and workshop facilitators. In their own creative work they work in a variety of media, all of which is either found, foraged or made from natural materials. For the last ten years they have been establishing a centre of the arts which is where they run the majority of their workshops. The name of the centre is the Old Mill which is also an exhibition space, bookshop and a dye garden . It is situated in the port village of Palnackie, on the Solway coastline in the coast of Dumfries and Galloway. The aim is to create a space for enquiry into the connection between creative practice and our natural environment. The Old Mill regularly hosts creative workshops with the emphasis on making art supplies such as paints and inks, alongside the historical and cultural context of creative materials.
