An Early Spring Walk in the Woods - Learn to draw and paint flowers
Early Spring, when this course will start, is a magical time of year; of new beginnings. You'll fully embrace this by learning to draw via studies of delightful woodland flowers that appear from February to March. These include Coltsfoot, Cherry blossom, Snowdrops, Ivy berries, Willow catkins, Gorse, Viburnum, Winter aconite, Hellebores, Lesser celandine, Common primrose and Periwinkle.
You'll refer to high quality images from Suzanne's own photographs in order to work through a series of lessons in form, proportion, colour, tone, capturing detail, exploring different medium including watercolour, gouache, ink and fineliner Occasionally we'll work from spring garden flowers that Suzanne will bring to the studio. This course will provide you with botanical illustration skills to take you forward into giving you confidence in your drawing, developing your own style and encourage you to look closely at nature.
It promises to be a supportive, relaxed environment where all art materials, refreshments & snacks are provided.
Maximum class size: 10
If you miss a class Suzanne can send you homework to catch up on.
Please note: Suzanne's wee dog Babs will sometimes be in attendance. She may occasionally work the room, looking for ear scratches.

An Early Spring Walk in the Woods - Create your own frieze
Term 4 of Botanical Illustration night class draws inspiration from the delightful, early Spring flowers you can find in East Lothian's woodlands. These include Coltsfoot, Cherry blossom, Snowdrops, Ivy berries, Willow catkins, Gorse, Viburnum, Winter aconite, Hellebores, Lesser celandine, Common primrose and Periwinkle. From the very start you'll be choosing which of these gorgeous flowers will feature in your own, larger than usual painting. After detailed studies and designing the layout for your final piece, you'll create a long, horizontal frieze, representing new beginnings & fresh starts.
As usual, high quality photos of these flowers will be provided as well as other spring flowers like Camellia and Magnolia and there will be daffodils, tulips and primula in the studio too if you wish your frieze to have more of a garden flower theme.
Suzanne will encourage you to mix your mediums for your final, gorgeous piece. There is a good choice of quality art materials for you to experiment with.
All art materials, refreshments & snacks are provided.
Maximum class size: 10.
